The Russian president, who’s been in charge for 25 years, paid tribute to the soldiers fighting in the war in Ukraine, calling them true heroes. But the war has had devastating consequences for Ukraine and for Russia, which is suffering heavy losses on the battlefield and economic pressure from sanctions. After nearly three years of fighting, how do the people of Russia view what’s happening?
