On the 28th of August 1947 Mario Lanza made his Hollywood Bowl debut, it was a great success & led directly to his MGM contract. One of the highlights of the concert that evening was the “Love Duet“ from Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly“ which Mario sang with soprano Frances Yeend. The following year Mario made his professional operatic debut in this very opera with the New Orleans Opera House Association. Mario again revisited “Madama Butterfly“ in his 2nd film as the “Vogliatemi Bene“ duet provided the memorable climax of the film... This video is a tribute to the historic 1947 Hollywood Bowl concert, Mario’s professional operatic debut of 1948 & the film performance of 1950...
