DEL SHANNON & JEFF LYNNE ? RAYLENE VERY VERY RARE GEM GREAT SOUND 1974

Regarding the origins of the track, Del had become good friends with Olivia Newton-John, recording sporadically at Cherokee Studios in the early 70s. Her managers had the idea that Del should come up with some nostalgic 50s tunes to be used in a future film version of the acclaimed Broadway musical Grease (1972). The movie wasn’t made before 1978, but before long Jeff and Olivia Newton-John had crossed paths at Cherokee studios sometime in 1973. Del suggested Jeff help him write some songs for this album and at least 4 tracks that were recorded for this project in 1974: Something To Believe In, Raylene, Amanda and (likely, though not confirmed) Cry Baby Cry. Jeff Lynne is not thought to have been involved with the Something To Believe In recording, however. “Jeff also produced one version of Raylene.“ Patrik Guttenbacher, Marc Haines, & Alexander von Petersdorff (1996 Unexpected Messages
