JET’s World Record Fusion Energy Pulse: 59 Megajoules

On February 9, 2022, EUROfusion announced another a major scientific milestone achieved by its researchers at JET, the Joint European Torus managed by EUROfusion member UKAEA. During successful experiments with a deuterium-tritium fuel mixture, the European consortium has more than doubled the previous world record for fusion energy production in a single pulse: 59 megajoules — all while demonstrating several other key objectives that reaffirm the viability of ITER’s research plan and the European Roadmap to Fusion Energy.
