Russian song PO DIKIM STEPYAM ZABAYKAL’YA (BRODYAGA) / Canción rusa/ Chanson russe/ ロシアの歌
The song became widely known thanks to Julius Napoleon Wilhelm Harteveld (1859-1927), who published it in 1908. A Russian composer and folklorist of Swedish origin, he traveled around Siberia and recorded songs of the homeless, prisoners and exiles.
The authorship of this song (1880s) is attributed to the Russian songwriter Ivan Kuzmich Kondratyev (1849-1904).
Gold in Transbaikalia began to be mined at the beginning of the 19th century. In Transbaikalia, convicts were exiled - both in criminal and political cases. The practice of building prisons near mines and using prison labor in mines was widespread in Eastern Siberia.
The song is performed by Evgeny Dyatlov - a famous Russian actor, rock musician, singer, TV presenter.
