Bach - WTC II Prelude and fugue no. 14 in F-sharp minor BWV 883 | Netherlands Bach Society

This 14th prelude from the Wohltemperirte Clavier II is written in F-sharp minor, a key associated in Bach’s time with nostalgic melancholy. And that is the atmosphere of this prelude: a sensitive piece with a wonderful solo melody and a soft swing accompaniment. But after that comes the real masterpiece: the only triple fugue in the ’Wohltemperirte Clavier’ II. A technical tour de force, which Bach however made very accessible. We recorded Bach’s first book of the ’Wohltemperirte Clavier’ at the homes of 24 different musicians. For the second book, performed in its entirety by Christine Schornsheim, we chose 12 very different locations in Utrecht, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city. Recorded for the project All of Bach on 25 September 2022 at the Fundatie van Renswoude, Utrecht, the Netherlands.
