This Week in Volcano News; Merapi Erupts, Alaska Volcano Update

A major eruption of the Mount Merapi volcano just occurred, causing pyroclastic flows to descend more than 2 miles from its summit. Meanwhile, in Alaska, the alert level was raised to orange at both the Tanaga & Takawangha volcanoes, suggesting that an eruption might be imminent. Also, in El Salvador, the San Miguel volcano erupted once again this week, ending a nearly 3 month long period with no eruptions occurring from its edifice. And in Hawaii, the Kilauea volcano seemingly stopped erupting, but it appears to only be an eruptive pause.
