Turkey: Police seize more than 1,000 fake life jackets during Izmir raid

Police seized 1,263 fake life jackets during a raid on a factory in Izmir, Thursday. During the raid, authorities also discovered two young Syrian children working at the facility. The poor-quality, counterfeit life jackets were filled with sponges and rags and sold for around 30 Turkish liras (€ $) each. Izmir has become a major gateway for refugees trying to reach Greece from Turkey, making it a market place for counterfeit products designed to ’assist’ refugees crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
