Traction Engine Doctor (1960)

Rilla Mill on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall. M/S of Mrs Dyke coming out of her house carrying a basket and climbing on the back of her husband’s traction engine to go shopping; the huge steam powered machine chugs slowly down the hill; lettering on the side says ’The Foden Showman’s Engine, Built 1910’. Commentator tells us that working on the engine is Mr Dyke’s hobby. Various shots of the engine driving slowly along as Mr and Mrs Dyke turn the wheels to control it. M/S of two small girls sitting by the roadside with their dog and watching it go by. Shots of the couple steering from inside the engine cab; Mr Dyke pulls the whistle. They arrive at the village shop, P J Sampson Stores, and Mrs Dyke climbs down and runs into the store. Mr Dyke also climbs down and walks round to put a block under the huge rear wheel and checks the tyre; he is wearing dirty white overalls and smokes a pipe.
