Fur Farming (1959)

Harold Wood, Essex. Margaret Hobbs is seen preparing big bowls of leafy vegetables for the animals on her husband’s fur farm. Eric Hobbs has brought a number of South American Copyu from the USA for breeding. They are also known as white and golden Nutria. Margaret takes the bowls of food to the cages and we see a white copyu eating, holding the food in his paw. A brown copyu beaver is seen sitting in water eating. Two golden copyu eat from a bowl , and one runs off with a piece of food to a hole. Eric lifts a copyu from its cage by the tail, and carries it to place it on a cage in front of the camera. C/U of its face, and of its webbed feet. Top shot of two copyu swimming in a tank. M/S as Eric lifts out a chinchilla from its cage and rests it on his arm. C/U of its face as he fondles its ear. Eric then takes a tiny baby chinchilla, smaller than the cup of his hand. Margaret and Eric watch it play on his hand before he puts it back and it scrabbles about until its mother comes to find it.
