Parrot School (1968)

Yorkshire. At Flamingo Park Zoo we see bird trainer Al Harlen with parrots he has trained to do tricks. Parrots are seen putting blocks into cut-out shapes on a table top; discovering which of three beakers has a pea under it after much shuffling; putting coins into a piggy bank / money box; riding on a small bicycle along a tightrope; the birds usually get a titbit to eat after each trick. The tricks are intercut with shots of the crowd watching around the parrot enclosure. One parrot rides along in a little red car, stopping to check under the bonnet before driving off; another ride on a tricycle; two more have a little chariot race, carrying small figures of cartoon characters Donald Duck and Quick Draw McGraw. Note: there are cameraman’s notes on file. Cuts exist - see separate record. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
