We Love Lepidoptera (1968)

Sherbourne, Dorset. Selection of close up shots of different colourful butterflies. Woman chases butterfly across field and catches it in her net. Voiceover tells us that this is not only a hobby but a business. Butterflies are not only chased but artificially bred. A man is seen working in hot house, placing a caterpillar onto nettle leaf. Another man is standing on top of a jeep fiddling with a tree branch covered with a white sheet. Follows a succession of shots of caterpillars. Some butterflies are bred to be saved from extinction, says voiceover. A man tries to persuade two butterflies to mate by putting them on top of each other - not successful apparently. Butterflies demand to choose a mate. A man places a cage filled with white butterflies on ground and frees them. They fly off. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
