Flats For Horses (1961)

Kensington, London. Two girls are seen riding horses through a London street. They leave the main road and get into, what appears to be, a small residential estate. Nice shot of a washing hanging over their heads - nowadays Kensington is somehow different. A woman is seen hanging her washing. High angle L/S of the mews - two floors of flats, wooden fence, a web of ropes with washing hanged, and, horses on the first floor! “In the days of horse drawn carriages, the mews actually housed thirty horses - with the carriages on the ground floor, horses on the first and the coachmen above them. Today there are only twelve belonging to a riding club...“ One of the girls is grooming a horse while an elderly man is watching her from above. Several shots showing the horses and the girls taking care of them in the unusual surrounding. One would think - not a great place for the stable. However, voiceover claims that “neighbours are friends in the truest sense.“ FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXP
