Again King Coal Takes Toll! (1932)

Full title reads: “Ashton-in-Makerfield. Again King Coal takes toll! 25 miners entombed, despite heroic rescue endeavours - and over a hundred dependants have lost their bread winners ...“ Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire (or Greater Manchester). Pan across colliery workings. (Dark shots). Voiceover describes this as the most terrible accident on the Wigan Coalfield since 1908. Another shot of the pit head and winding gear. A mines rescue man walks towards camera wearing breathing apparatus. People are gathered around the coal mine to hear the outcome of the accident. People walk out of the pit office. One woman appears to be crying. Another pan of the crowd. A woman is helped out of the office by two men. She appears to distraught even to walk unaided. The voiceover asks for assistance for the families of those who have died. Intertitle reads: “Donations should be sent to ... Mr Albert Sykes, Clerk of the Ashton-in-Makerfield, Urban District Council, Lancashire.“ FILM ID: A
