Latex In The Home - Do-It-Yourself In Rubber (1959)

Mansion House, London. Staff from the Natural Rubber Development Board demonstrate the versatility of foam latex for soft furnishings in the home. M/S Dennis Young, rubber consultant, wearing a bow tie, shows how pliable the foam is and sits down into a demonstration model of a very floppy style armchair made of uncovered egg box type foam latex. It almost collapses under his weight and he shows how bendy the arms are. C/U shot of the latex. Denise Spenser converts a kitchen chair into a covered bedroom chair. She fixes webbing, cuts out the foam, sticks it with glue, and hammers the foam into place. M/S of the finished Windsor chair. Rosemary Claxton, an artist, fixes rubber webbing onto a DIY stool. She places the cushions made with the foam into the stool frame and moves it to the end of a short divan. She lies down.
