“Ours Is A Nice School ... - Ours Is!“ (1932)

Full title reads: “Portsmouth. ’Ours is a nice school ... - ours is!’ - Over 1,000 scholars attend inauguration by the Lord Mayor of £200,000 Secondary School - one of Britain’s latest & best!“ Portsmouth, Hampshire. (Spacing between title and start of picture) Lord Mayor of Portsmouth and other civic dignitaries. The Lord Mayor is given a key and asked to open the Secondary School. He walks up to the door and opens it. A boy stands next to a flag pole as a girl raises the Union Jack. The British flag flies from the pole in front of the school. Various shots of the crowds and pupils gathered outside the school. Closer shots of the pupils. (Some of them don’t look too happy to be standing outside.) We are told that the school has all manner of facilities - laboratories, a library and a school hall fitted with cinema projection facilities. The children sing the Hymn ’Jerusalem’ A cheer is given and the schoolboys raise their hats in the air. The girls are a little less demonstrative. FIL
