Hampstead, London. Various shots of a car speeding and skidding around a test circuit at the Motor Schools Association where driving instructors are trained. M/S in an instruction room as a man in a suit, William Brown, stands in the centre of a four-wheeled contraption for testing car reversal technique; he steers carefully to reverse in between two ’kerbs’ as another suited man, trainer Bill Esom, watches. They both walk over to a model of a car engine; the trainer pulls levers and explains the workings to William. Then we see William get into a model car; a woman, Carol Fedo, is sitting in the driving seat. Carol starts to ’drive’ and Bill corrects her handling of the steering wheel. M/S from behind William and Carol in the model car; on the wall in front of them are various road signs and some model traffic lights.
