Art With A Past (1969)

Ancient beads are used to make unique pieces of jewellery. Artists Irena Corwin travels to Turkey, Morocco and China to research traditional jewellery and to buy raw material at bazaars. Various shots of Irena at work and some still photographs of women of the above named countries wearing ornate jewellery. C/Us of the beads and metalwork used by Irena and her hands at work. Some of her jewellery is displayed at the beginning of the film. Irena puts on some protective glasses as she works. Narrator explains that a London art gallery broke with all its traditions to give a showing to some of Irena’s jewellery art. Sequence showing some of Irena’s jewellery being modelled by glamour girls. They sit in a living room eating peanuts and drinking cocktails. Various C/Us of the girls and their jewellery including a C/U of cleavage ostensibly to show detail of a dangly necklace. The jewellery is mostly “ethnic“ but the dangly necklace looks very groovy.
