Myanmar’s military rulers held a parade to mark Armed Forces Day, which commemorates the start of the local resistance to the Japanese occupation in World War II, in Naypyidaw on Saturday.
The event comes as dozens of demonstrators protesting against the junta were reportedly killed in clashes with security forces across the country.
Representatives of only eight countries - Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand - reportedly sent representatives to the parade usually attended by many delegations.
The UN, EU and the US condemned the military junta which ousted elected officials including Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint on February 1.
