Learning letter sounds is the foundation for children to learn to read and write. In the Alphabet Cheer, I really tried to make the letter sound correspondences very easy for children to hear. I always strive for saying the letter sounds as clearly and accurately as I possibly can. Research shows the ideal number of times for children to hear letter sound correspondence repeated is three times for optimal learning. In my Letter Sound Song Cheer I say the letter sounds three times for each letter. The song is set up like a cheer, so your children can fist pump, raise their arms and celebrate learning letter sounds. Knowledge of letter sound correspondences and phonological awareness are the basic building blocks of literacy learning. These skills are strong predictors of how well students learn to read.
