A journey of a young Pakistani girl fueled by passion for horses to becoming first Female Jockey
Alishba Mohsin, an 18-year-old from Lahore, has become Pakistan’s first female jockey. Alishba, who is currently completing her A-Level, was officially made Pakistan’s first female apprentice jockey after her first horse race on October 10, 2021, in the Imtiaz Memorial Cup in Lahore. She joined the Lahore Race Club at the age of 13, but she had to stop after a month as her studies were being affected. After four years, at the age of 17, she decided to resume her passion professionally and got on board with MarryShah’s jockey panel at Lahore Race Club. She got the horse riding training from the riding school of Lahore Race Club. Horse racing, in contrast to other countries around the world, is considered a man’s domain in Pakistan. It’s an incredible achievement for an 18-year-old girl to make her debut and attain the sixth position in a field of 11 horses.
