FIRST DRIVE: Maserati MCXtrema – Flat Out In 730bhp Track Special!

Maserati recently unveiled a new take on its really rather impressive V6-engined supercar. Formerly known as Project24, the MCXtrema does exactly what it says on the tin – it’s the most extreme thing that Maserati could come up with using the bones of the MC20, and the 62 examples that are set to be built can *only* be used on track. It drives pretty differently too. Not least because the Nettuno V6 now has new, bigger turbos, a new intake and a different exhaust system for a total of 730bhp. All that power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox and limited slip diff, and the MCXtrema only weighs around 1,300kg thanks to a liberal use of carbon fibre and the fact that there’s only one seat as standard in the race-spec cockpit. Each of the 62 cars will be completely unique in its spec, costing just under £1 million. Not that it matters too much, because of course they’re all sold out already… So, what’s it like?
