While some Arabic speakers argue that Moroccan colloquial Arabic, or darija, is not a “true” Arabic dialect, but rather a variant of North African languages, Moroccan Arabic is similar to other Arabic dialects around the Middle East and North Africa. Besides Arabic, darija has influences from North African Amazigh (Berber) as well as European languages, especially French and Spanish, and increasingly English.
