The Aquarius Project: Adler Planetarium Meteorite Sled Expeditions

On Monday, February 6, 2017, at approximately 1:30 am CST, a 600-pound meteorite streaked through the midwest sky and landed in Lake Michigan, around 10 miles off the coast of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. ☄️ Watch Adler Teens and Adler Planetarium staff search the bottom of Lake Michigan for micrometeorite fragments! The Aquarius Project is a teen-driven underwater ROV meteorite hunt led by scientists from the Adler Planetarium’s Far Horizons program, and experts from Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and NASA. The Adler Planetarium is the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere! Located on Chicago’s lakeshore, the museum typically hosts more than half a million visitors each year and reaches millions more through youth STEAM programs, neighborhood skywatching events, people-powered research, and other outreach efforts. Today, the Adler is bringing our unique approach—scientific exploration rooted in community and connection—to guests from around the world who can enjoy the digital Adler from their own homes, libraries, schools or offices. 🎧 Listen to the Aquarius Project Podcast: ☄️ Hear updates on this meteorite search from Adler Teens: ⭐️ Learn more about teen opportunities at the Adler: 💛 Donate today and help us continue to bring educational space programming to everyone, everywhere: FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA Instagram: Facebook: Twitter: TikTok: #Meteorite #LateMichigan#AdlerPlanetarium #Micrometeorites #STEAM #SpaceMuseum #AskAdler #Education #Planetarium
