Rimsky-Korsakov Festival in Tikhvin

presents a documentary about the new festival of the Mariinsky, dedicated to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, that took place in Tikhvin, the composer’s native town, on March, 18-19, 2021. According to Valery Gergiev’s concept, this festival marks the beginning of a major tradition: music festivals, dedicated to the great Russian composers, at their birthplaces. Now there are plans of such festivals in Votkinsk (dedication to Pyotr Tchaikovsky), Pskov (to Modest Mussorgsky), Smolensk (to Mikhail Glinka), Veliky Novgorod (to Sergei Rakhmaninov). The documentary gives the opportunity to hear from the participants of the festival, who share their emotions and impressions: maestro Valery Gergiev, the governor of Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko and the soloists of the Mariinsky opera Elena Stikhina, Mikhail Petrenko, Yulia Matochkina, Sergei Skorokhodov and Alexander Mikhailov.
