Ben Berkenbosch - The Journey Up

“I came up with the idea for this piece in one evening for a little composing event that I organised for a bunch of other awesome composers. But since then, this piece has really grown on me. Because to me, The Journey Up became a piece that represents the feeling of climbing a mountain. And last year I have climbed two mountains. Besides climbing an actual mountain, called: ’The Mont Ventoux’, I went through one of the roughest periods of my life that same year. A period filled with self-doubt, panic, fear, pain. But on some level, my heart has always yearned to keep taking the journey up, and because of experiencing the consequences of being at my lowest, I managed to see the contrast. The mind is stronger than just something that operates your actions. It controls your feelings, and depending on what you tell it, it will cast these feelings back at you with ten times the power.
