Ukraine crisis: Civilian targets allegedly hit by UK-supplied missiles as Zelensky continues tour

Russian defence officials on Saturday accused Ukrainian forces of launching UK-supplied long-range missiles at two civilian enterprises in the Russian-controlled eastern city of Luhansk on Friday night. The Defence Ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, claimed in the latest of regular video briefings that Storm Shadow missiles were used in the strike. Russian media footage also showed damaged houses and cars in the settlement of Yuvileine on the outskirts of Luhansk. UK had announced on Thursday that it became the first country to start supplying Kyiv with long-range cruise missiles, which will allow it to hit Russian troops and supply dumps far behind the front lines as it prepares a major counteroffensive. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday thanked Italians for their support, as he visited Rome for the first time since the conflict began. Meanwhile, Italian PM Meloni pledged Italy’s support for Ukraine for “as long as is necessary“. On the same day, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell urged EU states to step up ammunition supply to Ukraine especially long-range ammunition, so that Ukraine could match Russian forces in terms of hitting range and intensity.
