“The Blessing“ song by Kari Jobe and the Elevation worship team was released on March 1, 2020, just a few days before most of the world went into the first lockdowns due to COVID. Within weeks it started to go viral and versions with parts in over 200 languages were sung spontaneously all around the world. This powerful Blessing movement was totally spontaneous and not internationally coordinated by any organization or ministry! Kari Jobe shared a few months after releasing the song, saying she and her team had absolutely no idea that it would be used by the Lord like this, and that she’d never cried so much about a song as on this one... when she saw new versions sung by brothers and sisters from all corners of the world in this difficult time, it just moved her heart to bits. Many are asking Who can unite us? Who can heal the deep rifts between us and tear down the thick walls dividing us? What power is stronger than the dizzying spirals of anger, hatred, despair and even violence? The world is at a loss to find a common ground, a common “narrative“, a common truth on which we can even stand to face our growing differences, our bitter grievances, and painful wounds, let alone solve or heal them. This song is an amazing testimony that there is one place where the ground is solid and flat, where all of us are the same, where none of us can boast: it is at the feet of the Cross. The LOVE of our Lord who gave His life and conquered death for us is the only power which can overcome the vicious hatreds which our enemy is trying to suck all people into. Jesus’ once-for-all victory is SO relevant to us in 2022! He took the curse of sin and death, to give us the BLESSING of His love and life! He is our HOPE WITHOUT BORDERS! There is a fountain of healing for everyone who is willing to come simply and humbly to Him with a repentant heart. When we capitulate before His outrageous LOVE for the world, for you, for me, we are reconciled to Him first, and brought together close to another in Him even with our different colors, cultures, and languages. WHAT AN AMAZING FAMILY we have!!... WHAT AN AMAZING FATHER!!! The unity across borders is one of the great miracles of the Gospel, the power of God. He does not call us to get out of the world or our various nations, but to love them and others as we seek His kingdom first. His righteousness, His priorities, His policies, His values fill and refill us as we open our hearts and hands to Him again and again, acknowledging our need of Him. He will never let go of you and me! In these turbulent days, brothers and sisters in Christ in every part of the world are praying, praying for Ukraine, also for Russia, and the whole world. As we weep with those who weep, in Ukraine, Russia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Myanmar and so many places, the joy permeating this video may seem out of place. However, time and time again in our Father’s Word, we see that HIS joy is stronger than suffering (Paul wrote the “Epistle of Joy” --- Philippians, in a squalid terror-filled Roman prison). HIS peace is stronger than fear, HIS hope stronger than despair, HIS blessing stronger than this world, and HIS LOVE stronger than death. The meaning of AMEN in Hebrew is: “solid“, “reliable“, “real“, “stable“, “unshakeable“; AMEN doesn’t disappoint and never lets down. It’s the exact contrary of fake. God’s news is Good News and Amen News! A real oasis of life in a desert of so much bad news and fake news. When everything is shaking, the good news is that there is something, someONE, who is forever stable and sure, His name is AMEN (see Revelation 3:14) and THE GOD OF HOPE (Rom 15:13). We have a solid reason to rejoice even when things around are not joyful at all. Jesus took the curse on the cross so as to secure the blessing for all those who believe in Him.
