Before he was ’equalizer’ Robert McCall, a role that won him a Best Actor Emmy, Edward Woodward was ’Callan’ (1967), a determined, deadly secret agent - a role that won him a British Best Actor award. Callan worked for The Section and dealt with the most serious intelligence threats, the ones ’marked for death’. The methods used were ruthless, ranging from torture to termination. The show ran for 44 episodes over four ’series’ (as they are called in the UK) followed by a theatrical film and a revival tv movie. Despite its bleak, downbeat mood several cover versions of ’Girl in the Dark’ appeared, including one SUNG by Edward Woodward!
