Moritz Moszkowski - Fantaisie-Impromptu Op. 6 (audio + sheet music)

Moritz Moszkowski wrote as many as seven impromptus. All are part of larger cycles entitled “Morceaux pour Piano“, with the exception of his Op. 6 Fantaisie-Impromptu (1870) which stands on its own. This is a technically challenging piece cast in ternary form. The virtuosic ’A’ section is built on two motivic ideas and leads into a calm and lyrical ’B’ section. This tranquil mood of the theme is then completely transformed into an intense passage in octaves marked grandioso, con somma bravura shortly before thereturn of the ’A’ section.
