James Stuart Blackton: Humorous Phases of Funny Faces (1906)

Humorous Phases of Funny Faces is an animated film from 1906 made by James Stuart Blackton. It is the first animation recorded on film. Blackton uses the stop-motion technique to animate some funny characters which he draws on a blackboard. It is considered by many as the first animated cartoon, although the movements are not quite as fluid as in the film Fantasmagorie by Emil Cohl:
