Russia-Ukraine standoff: US troops arrive in Poland, general speaks of “iron clad“ alliance

U.S. troops arrived in Poland on Sunday as the United States looks to reinforce its NATO allies in eastern Europe amid the buildup of Russia’s own military at Ukraine’s border. . Christopher Donahue commented on the military’s presence in the region, saying it was about ensuring the preventing of “any war aims“ and the protection of the NATO alliance. He also thanked Poland for their invitation. “I think it shows the iron-clad alliance between both of our nations,“ he said. This past Wednesday, President Joe Biden ordered nearly 3,000 troops to Poland and Romania, as Washington moves to reassure jittery NATO allies. The arrival of troops came just a day after Russia attack aircraft arrived in Belarus ahead of joint military drills between the two countries.
