“The House of the Rising Sun“ is a folk song from the United States. Also called “House of the Rising Sun“ or occasionally “Rising Sun Blues“, it tells of a life gone wrong in New Orleans. As is the case with many folk ballads, the authorship of ’The house of the Rising Sun’ remains conjectural. Folklorist Alan Lomax in his book ’Our singing Country’, states that the melody comes from a traditional 17th Century English ballad with the 20th century lyrics written by two Kentuckians, Georgia Turner and Bert Martin.
