The name of 1922 is given by the Carriage Row located here, where carriages and carriages were manufactured and sold.
On the oldest maps of Moscow (1843, compiled by P. Khavsky), the lane is called 3rd Spassky. On the map compiled by A. Khotev in 1852-1853, the lane is named Bolshoy Spassky. On the general plan of Moscow from 1858, it was again named the 3rd Spassky. On the map of Moscow from 1859, the lane is named Spasskaya Street. On later pre-revolutionary maps it is called Bolshoy Spassky. In 1922 it was renamed Bolshoy Karetny Lane. In 1956-1993 it was renamed Ermolova Street. In 1993, the lane was returned to its former name.
