Angela Rayner faced backlash last night for shelving her intentions to give preference to long-term British residents for limited council homes. The Labour Housing Secretary has stealthily abandoned the Conservative idea to implement a ’UK connection test’ in applications for social housing. Her department has made it clear that it will not proceed with the change, which would have restricted access to the 1.3 million-member waiting list to only those residing in the UK for a minimum of ten years.
