This is something that had never been documented on video before: a Jumping Spider (Phidippus audax) enters a Black Capped Chickadee nest in our backyard birdhouse and bites a 4-day old young hatchling, then interrupted by Chickadee mom returning to feed her young. The mom notices the spider and after a couple attempts removes it from the nest. The next day one of the hatchlings dies, most likely the one that got bit and effected by the venom.
Interestingly, 2 days later a large jumping spider returns to the next (likely the same one) and is once again removed by the mom, this time never to return (check out that video as well).
