Why you use the underhanded grip in viking spear and shield

This began as something of a reply to Matt Easton’s video about why you would use the the underhanded grip () and also some of the commentary around Skallagrim’s spear throwing video (). There’s a lot of good reasons to use the underhanded grip, but most of the reasons typically covered a fairly minor benefits compared to the greater ability to bind, close and manipulate your opponent, to say nothing of it being defensively stronger.
