Finale: Allegro non troppo (29:00) Arthur Rodzinski, conductor Vienna State Opera Orchestra Recorded in 1954 in Vienna, Austria Arthur Rodzinski is one of those conductors who is in danger of being largely forgotten, and that is a pity. He was very active in the 1930s through the 1950s, and was Toscanini’s assistant conductor for much of the radio days with the NBC Symphony. He leaves us a varied and admirable repertoire of recordings. Much of his earliest work was for Columbia, and in the ’50s he signed with Westminster, a small label with some fairly high production standards. This is one of our earliest restorations using the original version of the algorithms used on this channel, which was known as “22/33“, it employed a 4 channel temporal mix algorithm. Although we no longer use this temporal algorithm it did produce some fairly decent results, and we do get requests for our earlier restorations from time to time. We believed all of our 22/33 restorations were lost with the demise of a drive server in early 2019, but surprisingly this one turned up in storage on a Memorex drive from May of 2011. Taken from a vintage 1954 Westminster LP, this recording appeared on this channel, when it was known as RS3D Archive, between 2015-2018. Rather than go back and remaster, the present restoration was determined to be adequate for re-issue, and unpressed to our current standard of 24/96 for the current issue. This, as far as we know, is the only offering of this recording on YouTube, and although quite rare, it is well-worth hearing.
