Antigoni Goni plays Maxixe by Agustin Barrios Mangoré

Lovely Maxixe was introduced to me by Leo Brouwer after the finals of the Havana competition in 1988. I had just won the special prize for Best interpretation of Latin American music with Barrios Sueno en la Floresta and Leo said: “try this one! You will like it! He was so very right! When Naxos asked me to record a Barrios album, Maxixe was the second MUST have piece in my album, after Sueno of course! Here it is recorded last month in the beautiful Sint Truiden Academy Hall in Belgium.
