Feel, imagine and enjoy the first sentences formed by math rock. - 코토바는 math rock을 연주하며 팀 명은 ‘언어’를 뜻한다. 코토바의 첫 EP [언어의 형태]는 코토바만의 ‘언어구조’를 담은 앨범이다. 매스록은 일반적인 4박자뿐 아니라 5박, 7박 등의 변박을 조합하여 곡을 만들고, ‘언어의 형태’는 이를 충실히 따르고 있다. 코토바의 곡들은 보컬이 주도적으로 나서서 곡의 내용을 알려주지 않는다. 주술적이지도 나른하지도 않다. 대신 긴장감 있는 비트와 변박, 클린한 기타 톤과 묵직하고 주도적인 베이스 라인이 현실적인 형태로 귀에 꽂힌다. 이는 박자와 화음의 수치가 하나하나 맞아가면서 발생하는 쾌적함의 감각이다. 코토바의 ‘언어의 형태’는 리스너들에게 읽어보지 않은 시집처럼 다가간다. 곡 감상의 단서는 어디서 얻을 수 있을까? 앨범과 곡의 제목들, 그리고 쓸쓸한 감정들이 들어갔다는 점이다. 자신의 감정에 충실히 듣고 상상할 수 있기를. 그것이 가장 큰 목적이다.
