Kevin Spacey stars as the advertising executive with a midlife crisis, he becomes infatuated with his teenage daughter’s best friend. A stereotypical situation, but American Beauty is no cliche film, it’s an almost mythological journey set in an everyday suburbia. Mendes said the script seemed to be about something different each time he read it: “a mystery story, a kaleidoscopic journey, a series of love stories; it was about imprisonment, loneliness and beauty.
