Australia: Hundreds march through Melbourne over new COVID-19 pandemic laws

Hundreds of anti-government protestors marched through Melbourne’s Central Business District to decry new lockdown laws on Saturday, days apart from the city’s recent removal of curfew and lockdown measures. On Thursday, the legislation gave Premier Daniel Andrews new pandemic powers after being introduced earlier this week to the Parliament. The bill will now head to the Victorian upper house where it needs 21 votes to pass. If passed, it would allow Andrews to declare a pandemic for three months at a time and enable Health Minister Martin Foley to approve health orders.
