‘Piece of garbage’: John Kerry slammed for labelling the First Amendment a ‘major block’

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry has called the First Amendment a “major block” to combatting misinformation. Kerry’s comments came during a panel at the World Economic Forum on Green Energy on Wednesday. According to Fox News, towards the end of the panel, Kerry was asked what could be done to combat online misinformation about climate change. “But look, if people only go to one source, and the source they go to is sick, and, you know, has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence,” he said. Kerry’s comments were posted to X, where social media users slammed him for seemingly speaking against freedom of speech. “What a Piece of garbage! This is exactly why we have the 1st Amendment,” wrote one user.
