“Moonlight in Vermont“ - Joey DeFrancesco feat. Houston Person - incredible sax solo

Houston Person, one of the great unsung sax heroes, steals the show on “Moonlight in Vermont“ from Joey DeFrancesco’s 1993 ’Live at the Five Spot,’ wringing the livin’ hell out of the ballad standard with perhaps my single favorite solo of all time. Recorded at the Five Spot nightclub, New York City. DeFrancesco (organ), Person (tenor saxophone), Paul Bollenback (guitar), Byron “Wookie“ Landham (drums). I had the extreme honor and pleasure of speaking extensively with Mr. Person and seeing him in intimate concert setting recently, and he sounds as great as ever. Anybody who can tear off a MEAN solo like that deserves to be a legend.
