Oil Pastel Tutorial | Using Nupastel and Paul Rubens Oil Pastel. Snowy Creek (part 3 of 3)
In this section I work on the foreground, right side of trees and the left side tree. I work in the shadow and lights and try to get a thick application in the foreground. The texture is thicker in the foreground and thinner application in the background. This helps with a sense of distance. You can use texture to try to imply distance. So heavier texture in the foreground areas and then lighter applications as the scene goes back. Paul Rubens are soft and able to get a thick, textured finish. I finish off the water in the creek as well.
I really like the Paul Rubens on a sanded surface. I think they perform best on that kind of surface. A workable fixative can help get that “grit“ feeling and get a sanded paper feel.
At the end you will see me sign it and remove the tape.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I really enjoyed painting it. Snow is fun paint.
