Howdy ya’ll. Welcome back. Today we will be looking at photographs produced and published by the now defunct Detroit Publishing Company. When I began to notice that in nearly every city around the world you can find photographs from before 1900 that have been colorized, this colorization process was almost always attributed to the same company, especially in the United States. In today’s video we will be discussing The Detroit Publishing / Photochrome Company, which started in the late 1800’s, was world famous by the year 1900, and yet eventually went bankrupt around the year 1930. The thousands upon thousands of photographs owned by the Detroit Publishing Company, as well as their cameras and patents, would transfer to the ownership of the United States Government.
