Vivaldi was born in 1678 in Venice and lived most of his life there. In 1704 he was appointed superintendent of the Pieta, a school which trained young girls in the art of singing and music. This redheared priest composed 46 operas and over 500 concertos. His music was ignored during his lifetime and was performed mostly by the young girls at the school.
