Why Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is Disappointing

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart debuted on PS5 with jaw dropping next gen graphics and animation, but does it fail to capture what made the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy on PS2 as good as it was? In this analysis, we’ll review and critique how Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart oversimplified the Ratchet and Clank gameplay experience, dampened Ratchet and Clank character personalities compared to the Ratchet and Clank trilogy, a more superficial story, and why I’m glad Insomniac Games are still making Ratchet and Clank games. With Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter nowhere to be seen, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is a Gold Bolt in the rough of AAA platformers reminding us that despite this game’s faults, they’re still the heroes we need. Massive shout out to GameClips for compiling all of Rift Apart’s cutscenes - as you can tell it was a massive help!
