Washing Device (1951)

Washing device. Harrow Weald, Greater London. Various shots of Mrs. Wolf demonstrating a laundry washing device made by her inventor husband John Wolf. The invention is fork-shaped and fits into the bottom of the kitchen sink, a pipe connects the device to the vacuum cleaner. Mrs Wolf fills the sink with water and soap suds and then places dirty laundry into it. Once the hoover is switched on, the device works a bit like a jacuzzi - making the water froth and bubble! Mrs Wolf places a mesh over the sink to keep the clothes beneath the water and then sits down with a nice cup of tea. Cheaper than a washing machine, less hassle than a washboard - ingenious!
