Sir William Treloar Reel 2 (1907-1910)

Sir William Purdie Treloar (Lord Mayor of London 1906) founded a hospital in the country for crippled children. The hospital was opened in 1907 in Alton, Hampshire: SIR WILLIAM TRELOAR (Reel 2) The children are taking part in an obstacle race: The crawl under a tarpaulin and through barrels swinging on ropes. Amongst them are boys on crutches. ’The Treacle Bun Race’ - they must eat buns hanging from a piece of string. The boys in smart clothes walk past a priest on their way to church. The benefactors of the home meet with Sir William Treloar in the grounds. Sir William looks at the baskets that the children have woven. He chats to a child on a leg exercising machine. Pan along Sir William (always wearing a top hat), a nurse and several adults sitting in the sun in the garden under a parasol.
